idea

The inspiration for ArtKandy was born through seeing friends at art college scraping by financially, whilst their wonderful artwork lay around, unseen, in Edinburgh flats. Why should these talented individuals wait until their graduation show to earn money from their work? Why should the buyers wait? Why should the artist get less than half the sale price in a gallery? Why should the public pay these overinflated prices? The public AND the students seemed to be losing out in this situation. ArtKandy's idea was to facilitate fair trade revenue for art students - whilst generating an exciting new pool of art of all types for the public.

mechanism to earn

Our high streets seem to be full of galleries with cheap prints and reproductions, whilst shops and warehouses boast of being full of original art. The true quality and individuality of much of this work is often debatable and 'off the shelf', mass-produced goods can be found throughout Britain's homes. We felt that the public deserved accessibility to a higher quality of real unique art, and believed that there should be a mechanism in place for students to use their artistic talents to earn all year round.
